“I’m not like a regular mom, I’m a cool mom!”

When I saw Mean Girls for the first time in 2004, the year I graduated from UNC, I was just a few years away from the drama that was my own high school experience. I understood the appeal of the Plastics, the inner workings of frenemies, and definitely knew some real-life Regina Georges.

These days, the only characters I can relate to are the ones played by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Since my kids are getting older (too quickly!) and I’m slowly feeling my oldest child’s embarrassment when I talk to him in front of his friends, I keep reminding myself that I’ve still got it. I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom. Right?
